History and origins

Sumire is famous nationwide as a symbol of Sapporo Miso Ramen. Its history began in 1964, when founder Akiko Muranaka opened a small Ramen shop in Sapporo. Initially known as "Sumire," it soon became known as "Sapporo Ramen," characterized by its rich Miso-based soup and the fragrant aroma of stir-fried vegetables. After a series of name changes and a change of generation, it was relaunched as Sumire, where Akiko Muranaka's flavor has been passed down to her son, Nobuyoshi, and the ramen has evolved while preserving its traditions. With the Sapporo flagship store and other locations both in Hokkaido and overseas, Sumire has become a beloved destination for Ramen fans nationwide. The history of Sumire, which has led the culture of Sapporo Ramen for over half a century, truly embodies the authenticity of Sapporo Miso Ramen.
